One of the most important lessons I learned organizing Latino voters is this: many people do not disengage because they do not care. They disengage because they do not realize how powerful they are.
This is part 2 of a 6 part series focused on Latino representation and how we can deliver power to el pueblo.
When you have never seen a Latina governor in your state. When your city has never had a Latino mayor. When leadership does not reflect your community.
It is easy to assume your voice does not matter.
But the truth is undeniable. 1 million Latino citizens turn 18 each year and become eligible to vote that’s potentially 2 million new Latino voters by 2026 and 4 million by 2028. Today there are over 36 million eligible Latino voters. That is real power.
And yet, very few people talk about that.
In my organizing work, turnout increased when we simply told people the truth about their collective strength. When we shared the numbers. When we connected the dots between participation and impact.
Empowerment begins with information.
Awareness is the first act of power. Latinos are powerful and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, just like everyone else.
Did you know how large and influential the Latino electorate is before reading this? How does that change how you see your role?
